Lost Wood NWR, ND: 7-3-19

Male Northern Harrier, aka "The Gray Ghost"
Unusual among hawks, these birds use their acute sense of hearing to help locate prey.  They have an owl-like facial disc to help with directional hearing and soft owl-like feathers for a quieter flight.

Three Red-shouldered chicks

Eared Grebes

Savanah Sparrow
These birds are very capable runners; once discovered, they drop in the grass and dart away.

Singing to its mate and defining its territory

Beautiful yellow flowers

Good night
