Mimicry in our state bird

 


Northern Mockingbird












Northern Mockingbirds seem to learn their mimicry from other mockingbirds



These birds mimic only those songs similar in pitch and rhythm to their own vocalizations.



Mockingbirds learn most of their mimicked calls from older males
rather than from the species they imitate.
