American Wood Stork
The only stork that breeds in the United States.
They nest above water to prevent predators like raccoons from feeding on their eggs and young. However,it is thought that all 820 nests in South Florida either failed or were abandoned in 2012.
They are tactile feeders. When their bill comes into contact with a prey item is slams shut with astonishing quickness.
