A patch of Reindeer Moss which is actually a lichen which is actually a symbiotic partnership between an algae which is for nutrients via photosynthesis and a fungus for support.

The map shows the area of the two large fires in the recent history of this beautiful park.  The 1991 fire was natural, the 1999 one was human caused.
