Bird Survey on Pinellas NWR

On Thursday, July 14th we accompanied Barb and Dave Howard and Dave Kandz on the monthly bird survey on the seven islands in the Pinellas National Wildlife Refuge. Join us.

Green Herons are one of the few tool-using birds who commonly drop "bait" onto the surface of the water and grab small fish that are attracted.  We have seen them use feathers, small twigs, leaves, and even popcorn.

As Captain and co-founder of the Friends of Tampa Bay NWRs, Dave Howard, pulled the boat into the slip next to his dock, the water temperature was a sizzling 94 degrees.
