Black Oystercatchers in Southeast Alaska

Black Oystercatchers

This male was foraging for blue muscles along the shoreline on the beach at Gloomy Knob.

These birds migrate only short distances or not at all, so they are permanent residents of their breeding range.

Success!

A group of oystercatchers is collectively known as a "parcel" of oystercatchers.
