Pacific Loons in SE Alaska: July 2018

Pacific Loons

Like other loons, the Pacific Loon walks awkwardly on land, and cannot take flight from land at all.

It requires about 40-75 yards of open water to take flight flapping ad pattering across the surface.

They feed mostly on fish but also eat some crustaceans and insects.
