Black-bellied Plovers on Egmont Key: 11-12-17

In their winter/non-breeding plumage they don’t have the black belly for which they are named.

The pattern on their wings is beautiful

These plovers are usually the first to take flight when a flock of shorebirds is approached.

When disturbed, they tend to fly out over the water, circle, and land again behind the observer.
