Egmont Key NWR: 6-17-17 Black Skimmer Colony

We were dropped off on the island to walk over to the northwest corner to check out the Black Skimmer Colony.

Gopher Tortoise strolling through the colony

Bringing a meal to its mate who is sitting on eggs in their nest

Handing off the fish to its mate

Off duty now so preening is in order

And down on the beach, an American Oystercatcher, was foraging

This one is banded.  We will call in the number and find out where this bird was banded (probably as a chick banded locally).

Then it will return to relieve its mate on their nest.
