Saturday, September 17th: Breaks Interstate Park, VA

Today (Saturday) we explored many of the trails in this park.  Gas nearby is $1.87/gal.  We have had no rain since leaving sister Marti's 8 days ago.

"Doe a deer"

No doubt how it gets the name "White tail Deer

Widow Skimmer Dragonfly
The Widow Skimmer is a large, attractive dragonfly with uniquely patterned wings, which are dark at the base, white in the middle, and glass-like on the tips.  Both the abdomen and the front of the male (shown here) are white and have a powder-like appearance, whereas the rest of the thorax, eyes and face are dark brown.

These dragonflies are large with a wingspan of up to 3 1/2" and territories are often defended by groups of widow skimmers.

These dragonflies are found at elevations of up to one mile above sea level.

Sayings to make one smile
