Moses Cone Memorial Park, NC: 5-2-18

Brown Creeper, a new trip bird

These birds will freeze when threatened, often with out-stretched wings, and remain motionless for several minutes.  Their brown plumage is such an effective camouflage that they can be nearly invisible.

Male Indigo Bunting

Red-breasted Nuthatch

They apply sticky conifer resin to the entrance of their nest hole.  The male puts the resin on the outside of the hole while the female puts it around the inside.  It may help to keep out predators and/or competitors.

Male Eastern Towhee

Singing to his mate on the ground nearby
