Low tide bird bonanza seen from our deck: 12-5-18

American White Pelicans were busy feeding for over two hours

They scoop fish into their huge pouch while they swim along the surface.  They will often encircle a school of fish and then shrink the circle as they feed on the helpless fish.

Several different species were feeding on the flats.

Primarily Great Egrets and White Ibises

White Ibis flying by

Great Egrets

Great Blue Heron taking off into the wind which happened to be right toward our home

Great Egrets too

Brown Pelicans (bottom bird) are the only one of the 13 pelican species that dive for their prey.
