White-throated Sparrows in Columbia, S.C.: 11-26-18

 White-throated Sparrow

As mentioned previously, this species comes in two color morphs: those with white stripes and those with tan stripes.

Individuals almost always mate with a bird of the opposite morph.

Bath time!

Males of both color types prefer females with white stripes, and both kinds of females prefer tan-striped males.

A group of sparrows is called a “crew” or a “flutter."
