Tricolored Heron
Formerly the Louisiana Heron
This heron is the only dark colored heron with a white belly.
White Ibises coming into Bird Island for the night
Around their nesting colonies (they do not nest on Bird Island), ibises eat crabs and crayfish, which in turn devour quantities of fish eggs. By keeping down the numbers of crayfish, these birds help increase fish populations.
