Black-crowned Night-Heron








The adults do not distinguish between their chicks and the chicks of other nests and will commonly brood chicks which are not their own.

These birds nest in groups that often include other species, including herons, egrets and ibises.





Immature Black-crowned: Scientists fin it easy, though a bit smelly and messy, to study the diet of youngsters as they often disgorge their stomach contents when approached.
