Local Hodgepodge from our deck

Mottled Ducks
Often pairs of Mottled Ducks hang around, sometimes going into our pool.

Males have the yellow bills (far right and far left)

No doubt they are "dabbling" ducks and they are the only ducks adapted to breeding in Southern marshes.

The coral for our aquarium is washed by rain (though not much!) and cured of its bleach by the sun.  After a couple more weeks it will go back into the tank.  Shots of the tank will then follow.

Full moon: 12-14-16

Feeding frenzy!!!
A huge school of mullet draws American White Pelicans (a winter visitor in our area) over to join our year-round resident Brown Pelicans.

From afar the Whites tend to see the Browns diving and "know" that means food.

Incoming!

Notice the jumping mullet just ahead of the swimming birds.

The group is preparing to form a small circle around some of the fish and slowly close the circle, scooping the fish into their massive pouches as the diameter of the circle shrinks.

Thanks Nancy
