Snowy and Sanderlings at Ft Desoto's East Beach

Snowy Egret with a broken leg

While feeding in shallow water, they will often use one foot to stir up the bottom, flushing prey into view.

A very widespread species

A really bad hair day

Sanderling

Very active feeders running around on the shoreline like they've had several cups of coffee.

These birds are one of the world's most widespread shorebirds.  Though they nest only in the High Arctic, in fall and winter they can be found on nearly all temperate and tropical sandy beaches throughout the world.
