Dauphin Island Audubon Bird Sanctuary, AL: 4-12-18

“The truth of the matter is, the birds could very well live without us, but many - perhaps all - of us would find life incomplete, indeed almost intolerable without the birds.”
Roger Tory Peterson

Black-and white Warbler

They often forage after insects while going up or down a tree trunk.

Louisiana Waterthrush

Though they look like a thrush or a sparrow, they are actually a warbler.

Great Crested Flycatcher

These birds have a very loud and distinctive call that can be heard from a great distance away.

They are the only eastern flycatcher that nests in holes.  We have had them nest in one of our 6 nest boxes at home.

We estimated this Gator on Lake Guillard was 10-12 feet long.

Violet Wood Sorrel

Cell phones: Too true to be funny?

  1. Wood Sorrel is a type of Oxalis , named for the Oxalic Acid that gives it a tangy flavor.
