Ft Desoto County Park: 5-20-18

 Wilson’s Plover

Like Killdeers, these plovers will resort to reining injury, such as a broken wing, to distract potential predators.

Juvenile Dunlin

In breeding plumage with the dark belly

Sanderling in breeding plumage  (This year we have seen more adults in breeding plumage at Ft D than we’ve ever seen before)

Dark Morph Reddish Egret

While populations of our rarest egret have been recovering somewhat during the last century, this species is now threatened by the degradation and destruction of its preferred habitat.

White Morph Reddish Egret

It flew from Outback Key over to North Beach giving us a closer view.
