Grayton Beach State Park: 2-18-17

The BirdMobile in the dunes of Grayton Beach SP

Near Santa Rosa Beach, FL.

Three Coastal Dune Lakes lie within the boundaries of the 2,200 acres of this park.  A number of these lakes are scattered throughout the area.  These freshwater lakes, formed by water draining from upland areas and nestled between old dunes are found nowhere else in the US except along this section of coastline.  The sand in these dunes is pale quartz carried from the Appalachian Mountains by glaciers when they receded long ago.

Northern Mockingbird

These birds continue to add new sounds to their repertoires throughout their lives.
