Black-capped Chickadee probing for food

These birds may cache food in hundreds for different sites, recalling those locations and retrieving the food up to a month later.

The Black-capped Chickadee is the state bird of both Maine and Massachusetts.

Red-eyed Vireo
Again we felt very fortunate to capture this bird's photo as they usually sing loudly from the tree tops, hidden from view by leaves and branches of the canopy.

Red-tailed Hawks

The raspy cry of these birds is typically used in movies to representing eagle or hawk anywhere in the world.

Their eyesight is so keen, they can spot a small mouse from as high as at least 100 feet.

American Toad
This is a common species of toad found throughout the eastern United States and Canada.  They are most active at night, spending most of the daylight hours hiding in burrows, in leaf litter, or underneath logs or rocks.

When threatened, especially during encounters with snakes, they will inflate their body and extend their hind limbs so as to appear larger.
