Photos from Savannah NWR, SC - April 21st, 2016

Today is Saturday, April 23rd.  We birded Waccamaw NWR where Swallow-tailed kites are the signature bird this morning and headed north this afternoon to Wilmington, NC.  Lindsay was born here and we went by her old home, where she went to elementary school, the church where she was baptized, the high school where her parents met and the church where they were married, and her grandmother's house, etc.  Since we had no cell coverage Thursday or Friday night but do have tonight, we need to catch up with photos from Savannah NWR on Thursday and The Audubon Center at Beidler Forest on Friday, home of 2000 pairs of Prothonotary Warblers.  Hope you will understand?

1-2.  Brown Thrashers have the largest repertoire of songs of all North America birds and are able to vocalize 3000 distinct songs.

3-5.  Black-bellied Whistling Ducks: they feed primarily on plant material and unlike most ducks, they are nocturnal feeders.

6-11 and both movies.  Huge mixed flocks of Glossy Ibises and immature White Ibises along with Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and a few Great Blue Herons
