Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, MI, U.P.: 5-22-17

Many of the trails were in sad shape after the excessive amount of rain this spring.

Male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker

These sapsuckers have been found drilling sap wells in more than 1000 species of trees and woody plants, though they have a strong preference for birches and maples.

The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is the only woodpecker in eastern North America
